Through the Big Things or the Little…

My view from the Women's Retreat I just went on! So beautiful!
My view from the Women’s Retreat I just went on! So beautiful!

I have a confession to make…when I started typing this blog post, it was only going to be about how God wants to do BIG things with you. Thankfully, God stopped me in my tracks and taught/showed me that the little things matter just as much! (I am so thankful how He does that!) He not only used my wise husband, but then literally led my fingertips to this blog post the very next morning. As if that wasn’t enough, when I got in the car to go to work that very same morning, I heard the same message on the radio about not worrying so much about what your big purpose might be, but instead focusing on surrendering daily to God and seeking to give Him glory in the little things!!!! So this message is clearly from God and not from me 🙂 (Thank goodness!!!) I hope this encourages you to see that the little things in your every day life are just as important as the big things, and I also hope this encourages you to not be afraid to dream big at the same time!!!

So whether you are speaking to someone at the gas station or speaking in front of thousands of people, both are just as important in seeking to give God the Glory!

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the Glory of God.” -1 Corinthians 10:31

I have caught myself thinking a lot lately about how much I desire to one day get to share what Jesus is teaching/showing me to thousands of women around the world. To have a big platform and get to encourage LOTS of people to experience the love of Jesus and seek after Him with all they have. But I have to admit that that dream can be so easily twisted for selfish reasons. As much as I hate to even think that is true, lots of times throughout life I catch myself desiring to make MY name great, instead of HIS name great!! That’s how easy it is for me to turn something potentially God-Glorifying into something sinful!

That being said, I do want God to use me to show how Powerful and Glorious He is! Sometimes I wonder if He wants to use little insignificant me or not. And sometimes I wonder how He might want to, and what I can do to make sure I’m open and available for Him to use. I’m not sure if you have ever had those thoughts before, but regardless of any of those things, guess what!?! God is a BIG God, and has called you by name, and He loves to bring Glory to Himself! So that means He DOES want to use little insignificant me and you. 🙂 Not only that, but it’s not just the big things that matter. I have realized that instead of turning these dreams of mine into an idol, that God wants me to just live for Him and seek to give Him glory in even the mundane tasks of my daily life!

I want to encourage you in that God DOES want to use YOU, yes YOU, for His glory…In the Big things AND the Small things!! Here are some scriptures that show God’s passion and desire for showing His Glory through us:

“…bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” -Isaiah 43:6-7

**You were created, formed, and made FOR His glory!!!

“For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, ‘For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” -Romans 9:17

**God has a purpose in putting you where you are, to be around the people you are around, to have the platform you have…whatever that may be, simply to show His power in you, that you might proclaim His name in all the earth!!

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16

**Let your light SHINE everywhere you go!! Don’t hide it…shine your light so that others will give glory to God when they see your good works!!

Okay. So I hope you see in these Scriptures that God clearly not only wants to use you to bring Glory to Himself, but He created you for it!!! I want to give just a few examples in Scripture that show just how BIG God is, and how He is literally able and willing to do what seems impossible. So before you throw that big dream out the window, remember who is on your side. Remember who lives inside of you. Remember who calls you His son or daughter. Remember how much He wants to use you for His glory. And remember how powerful and faithful He is:

  • He created the whole world and everything in it – “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” -Psalm 19:1
  • Jesus did MANY miracles:
    • Turned water into the best wine (John 2:6-8)
    • Healed an official’s son (John 4:46-53)
    • Cast out demons (Matthew 8:28-32)
    • Raised the dead to life (Luke 7:12-15)
    • Walked on water and allowed PETER (an ordinary human) to walk on water as well (Matt. 9:18 & Matt. 14:25-29)
    • Calmed storms (Matt. 8:26)
    • HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD & appeared to the disciples (Matt. 28:1-6) and now His Spirit lives in YOU when you believe in Him!! (Romans 8:11)
  • God used Moses to part the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-31)
  • The Passover is incredibly powerful (Exodus 12)

And so much more!!! A friend recently shared with me her favorite verse, John 21:25, which says:

“Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”

We serve a Big, Powerful, LOVING God, y’all. And He wants to do great things with you that He has planned before the world came to be (Ephesians 2:10). So, if you do have something God has placed on your heart that seems like it may be impossible, don’t be afraid to go for it 🙂 And in the meantime, throughout your daily life, remember that God still desires you to seek Him in those things too.

One word of caution: don’t neglect the small things in the pursuit of the big things. Luke 16:10 says:

“One who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much.”

The small things have the potential to make just as much of a difference in someone’s life and are every bit as important!!! He has called all of us to different things, and has given each of us different and specific gifts!!! Whether we are called to mop floors or preach to tens of thousands, we all share the same purpose of loving God and loving others, and to give God ALL the Glory!!!

I will end with one more verse and a quote from John Piper.

“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” -Philippians 2:13

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” ~John Piper~

I hope this encourages you, because it is all so true. Seek out Jesus from the moment you wake up in the morning each and every day, and I promise you whether you get to immediately see the fruit or not, He will use you for His glory 🙂 And just remember through it all, (because I can forget so easily), God’s love for you is not based on your works, but on what Jesus has already done for you, because He LOVES YOU!!!
